WHY THE NAME LIGHTSOURCE?

The name LightSource has scriptural and spiritual reference.  It began when another friend and I were discussing Matthew 5:14-16 which reads “Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

“What do you think the Savior meant when He said “Ye are the light of the world,” my friend asked.

I thought for a moment.  Then I responded with the standard answers I had always heard in Sunday School growing up.  “Christ is being metaphorical, He is comparing us with light.  It means we should be a good example, we should help others to come to God through our example, and not hide our goodness or talents.”  I was pleased with myself for knowing the answer.

“Yes,” my friend replied, “those are all possible answers, and that is what most people think.  I, however, do not believe that is what the Savior meant.  Christ was not being metaphorical, nor was He speaking in parables.  He was being very literal.  He said exactly what He meant to say, and He meant exactly what He said.  Christ meant that we are literally the light of the world.”

It took a few minutes for that to sink in.  “You mean to say that Jesus was saying we are literally light?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“What is light then?” I asked.

“That is the question.  I will not give you that answer, you have to discover it on your own,” he replied.

Needless to say, my mind was blown over that one.  I had never considered the possibility that Christ was being literal in those verses.  So I began to research.  First I looked up every verse in all the scriptural books that dealt with or mentioned light.  I discovered, much to my surprise, that God actually has a lot to say on the subject.  I found several instances where Christ uses very similar language but refers to Himself, as in “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12 Bible, King James Version).  I also found several instances where the Lord refers to us as “children of light” (1 Thessalonians 5:5 Bible, King James Version).

“Okay,” I thought, “my friend might be on to something.”

After studying the scriptural references regarding light, I began to study physics and quantum mechanics.  I had never before studied the physical characteristics or properties of light.  Wow!  Light is the big puzzle in modern physics.  Why does it behave the way it does?  What is it exactly?  Is it a particle, is it a wave?  How do the photons in light choose to act?  Are they conscious?  Obviously this is not a treatise on the physics of light, and the answers to those questions are way outside the scope of this website.  However, I invite you to do some research on your own.  The discovery is well worth the effort.

In studying the physics of light, I discovered what my friend meant.  So now, I too believe that Christ was being very literal when he said “ye are the light of the world.”

So in forming my company, that idea stuck.  I wanted to convey the idea that we are each literally the light of this world. Inside each of us is a source of light more powerful than any of us can comprehend. If we discover that truth and live like it, amazing things begin to happen.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

My name is Jerem Eyre.  I am a recovering financial planner.  After being in the industry for 3 years and being very successful as a traditional financial planner, I had an experience in 2004 that changed everything.  I lost a big client.  Oh yeah, this was a big case.  And I lost big time.  I was working with a client friend of mine who owned a successful business that was just starting to turn the corner into really big profits.  As he started to make more and more money I went out and sat down with him to show him my financial planning.

I had devised a brilliant financial plan and I was certain he would feel the same way and would buy the plan.  After meeting with me and looking it all over he said “Jerem, this looks good, but why would I do it?  It seems to me that I would make way more money if I just kept my money in my business than if I put it into your plan.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.  What kind of idiot couldn’t see that the plan I had devised was the greatest thing since sliced bread.  The plan was so awesome, how could he not buy it?

Well, I looked over his numbers and sure enough, he would make a lot more if he kept his money in his business rather than put it in my plan.  But I told him all the things that financial advisors tell people “you should diversify, you should dollar cost average, you should have some mutual funds and life insurance and IRA’s.”  I revised that plan into many different variations and each time he told me the same thing.

About this time he was introduced to another advisor who began to talk with him about financial principles rather than financial techniques.  He taught him what money really is, how it moves and flows, and the principles that govern it.  After they had been meeting for awhile my friend and I sat down together again and he said, “Jerem, I hope you don’t get mad, but I did some business with that other guy.”  When he told me how much business he had done I could not believe it.  It was the largest case I had ever seen up to that point.

The very next morning I called that other advisor and asked him what he was doing.  It was obvious to me that he knew something that I didn’t.  We went to lunch and he shared with me a world of money that I was ignorant of.  I had no idea it even existed, and I had been doing financial planning for 3 years.  It blew my mind!

That experience set off a very intense period of study and research for me.  I was devouring anything I could get my hands on regarding this other world of money.  I learned that there are indeed principles that govern how money is created, how it moves and flows and how it operates.  I also learned that if a person can discover these principles and organize their lives around them, amazing things start to happen and life gets better.  A person really can create as much wealth and abundance in their life as they want to.  And the great news is that it does not take until age 65 to do it.

As I began to learn and apply these principles in my own life it continued to get better and better.  Now a few years after that experience I can honestly say that life is better than ever.  I still have my struggles, I doubt that those ever go away completely.  We as people would not grow as much if they did.  But truly life is great!

Having seen the changes that are possible in my own life, I now teach those same principles to my clients.  I had a lot of repenting to do for my years as a financial planner, but I have now had the pleasure of assisting many clients through the wonderful transformation of discovering and living true principles.
